Some people believe that reading is always a good habit. Others feel it depends on which books a person is reading. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.
Reading has been one of the most popular pastimes that people engage in. Many are of the perception that this activity always leaves a positive impact irrespective of the genre of the book while others contend against this view. In my opinion, reading is undeniably a virtuous trait but parallelly, we must also ensure that the book serves us in a good way.
People who glorify any kind of reading as impeccable often point to its irrefutable advantages. Studies have shown that readers have more vivid imagination and better linguistic capabilities. Not only do writers entertain us with their creativity but also there are also books that enlighten us and guide us through life. Fictional books spark our artistic and linguistic abilities while non-fictional books redefine our way of thinking. This is particularly given that most of the world’s greatest minds were great readers.
Nonetheless, books do have a focus group for which the author has them penned down for. Thousands of books hit the market each day and if we are not on the list of the target audience of a particular book, then we may find them inappropriate. Rather than wasting our time on books that are not meant for us, we could switch to specific genres that benefit us. For instance, there are books that have age bars as they might contain adult contents and so, children should refrain from these.
In conclusion, it is common that some people believe reading in any form to have only positive implications. In my perspective, though this hobby is worth spending time on, it is our responsibility to judge if the book falls into our genre.
Nice essay.
