Nowadays, an increasing number of people of people with health problems are using alternative medicines and treatments instead of visiting their normal doctor. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

The world has witnessed the advent of many medical sciences and technologies in the past few decades. It is recently observed that there is an acute surge in the number of people who prefer alternative medicines over consulting a doctor. In my perspective, I strongly contend this trend to be a negative development due to its multiple adverse implications.

Alternative medicines are not clinically proven and rather rely on pseudoscience and anecdotes. Without any scientific validation on their effectiveness, these treatments could have negative consequences on the health of the patients. This may range from minor side-effects to even the loss of lives in the worst case.  For instance, several lung and heart ailments were diagnosed in some recovered covid patients who took alternative medicines when they were covid positive.

Moreover, many alternative treatment methods are privately backed by religious groups or private companies in motive of money. They expend huge financials for advertisements and for staging events to promote the effectiveness of these medicines. Due to the promotions by these influential groups, common people end up paying for these treatments. It is often very late when patients finally realize that they were being misguided. There are many recorded cases of people who chose expensive alternate treatments to cure their acute ailments but had their medical conditions intensified instead.

In conclusion, people nowadays prefer alternative medicines rather than consulting their doctor.  In my opinion, this trend is explicitly negative due to its adverse impacts on both the health and the financials of the people.
