Nowadays, most countries can improve the standard of living through economic development, but some social values are lost as a result. Do you think the advantages of this phenomenon outweigh the disadvantages?

Many nations take deliberate efforts to raise the living quality of their citizens. Many are of the perception that this could be achieved swiftly by economic advancements but with a loss of some societal values. In my perspective, the irrefutable gains of this proposal subside all the associated concerns and hence, is advantageous overall.

Many people equate any raise in living standards with the deterioration of social ties. This is due to our increased obsession with the modern-day gadgets and facilities. The engagement in these conveniences shorten our time to communicate with each other and diminish our possibilities to establish a long-term bonding. With the absence of meaningful interactions between people, there would be reduced societal cohesion. For instance, with the advent of social media and short text messaging, many people boast of thousands of friends on the internet but rarely find any true ones during their misery.

Nonetheless, any nation could greatly enhance the quality of life by economic development. With this, countries could ensure advancements in different sectors such as healthcare, legal system as well as tourism and education. Not only this would improve various services for the public, but also creates employment opportunities for them in many fields. This could raise the purchasing power of the citizens to afford more conveniences and improve their standard of living further. This is particularly true given that it is the affluent nations that remain in the top position in many quality of life indices.

In conclusion, it is proposed by many people that countries could enhance the living quality of their people through economic development though accompanied by some societal concerns. In this essay, I contend that the advantages of elevating the standard of living through financial advancements overshadow its social drawbacks.
