People have varying perceptions on careers. Many advocate that this is to pursue their passion while others contend that career is only a means to live. Both views have their own legitimate reasons, in my opinion, it is up to the person to decide on what career suits them best.
Proponents of passion as a career emphasize their mental and emotional benefits. Following their interests not only motivates them to do better but also helps them to be confident in their abilities. Such people remain composed in adverse situations and hence improve their odds of success. For instance, J.K Rowling was passionate about writing which has made her preserve long enough to publish the Harry Potter series after being rejected by a dozen publishers.
Nonetheless, many people equate their career to livelihood. Thay are of the belief that we could always choose to love what we are doing rather than doing only what we love. With deliberate efforts and commitment, we could be exceptional at anything we do and become successful. This is particularly true given that the late President of India, A.P.J Abdul Kalam was passionate to become a pilot where he failed but later went on to become a highly successful scientist at the Indian space agency.
In conclusion, it is often believed by many that the goal of a career is to align it with their passion, but many others consider it only as a means of livelihood. There are valid arguments with both views, in my perspective, I believe that the selection of a career path is a personal choice.
